About the Workshop
Given the rising rates of suicide completions and attempts in India, Suicide Awareness and Intervention is an area of healthcare that needs to be focused on with priority, immediate relevancy, and urgency, and through appropriate skills and expertise. Additionally, understanding the myths around suicide as well as successfully identifying and intervening are skills that can save someone’s life. This workshop highlights the difference between suicidal behavior, ideation, planning, methodology, and attempts. We also present the Safety Planning Intervention (SPI), identified as the best practice by the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, which can be administered as a stand-alone intervention. It encompasses a written, prioritized list of coping strategies and sources of support that may be utilized by individuals to alleviate suicidal crises. After this workshop, you will feel ready to recognize warning signs of an impending suicidal crisis, employ coping strategies, understand the utilization of social contacts and social settings as a means of distraction from suicidal thoughts, contact mental health professionals, and more. Participants will have to fill out a feedback form to be eligible for the e-certificate, which will be mailed to you within 2 days of the workshop.
